Omaha Steel recently hosted roughly 100 members from the Saunders County Livestock & Ag Association. It was a great opportunity to educate local community members on how castings are produced and allowed them the opportunity to meet our team and tour our facility. The Omaha Steel team members and visitors had a great time!

It was one of the hottest days of the year in the Midwest on Wednesday, June 28th.  We think it was because we had some smoking hot wheels at our Show & Shine!  From classics to trucks to the 2-wheel types, we had it all! Thanks to all who participated and to Mother nature for keeping the rain at bay.

Employee Appreciation – National Donut Day

Life is short, eat the donut! Last week, all our divisions at Owen celebrated National Donut Day! We served over 1,000 donuts to our employees!

Owen is excited to sponsor FIRST Lego League (FLL) robotics team, called the Data Dragons. FLL encourages young minds to explore Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). In addition to a robot game, each season FLL teams are challenged to investigate that year’s theme by speaking to experts, identifying problems, formulating innovative solutions, and sharing their research with the community.

This year’s theme was about energy. The Data Dragons won awards for Robot Performance and Robot Design and were nominated for the Nebraska Innovation Award at their regional qualifier in January. At the Nebraska State Championship in February, they competed against 48 teams and won the 2nd Place Champions Award and an invitation to the Razorback Invitational, an international competition at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. Last week, they competed against 80 elite teams from around the world and won an Innovation Project Finalist award.

Over their 17 seasons, Brian and Kit mentored fifty Christian homeschooled young men aged 9-14.  They taught them skills in STEM, robotics, research, problem solving, community engagement, public speaking, project planning, and teamwork. Their competitive team was very successful, winning an award at every competition they attended.

Owen Holdings is a proud sponsor of Habitat for Humanity. Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization that helps families build and improve places to call home. Affordable housing plays a critical role in strong and stable communities. Habitat’s 16th Annual Women’s Power Luncheon 2023 was hosted last week and celebrates the service of the women who power Habitat for Humanity of Omaha to build the community by providing safe, energy-efficient, and affordable homes. Owen Industries was honored to send a few of our valued associates. Emiley and Haley strike a pose!

Did you know that PVS and Owen Industries has the only Department of Labor Certified Welder Apprentice program?  That’s right!  Since 2016 our welder apprentice program has been in action.

Coming June 1st, classes will start for 4 new Welder Apprentices.   Our apprentice program blends paid on the job training and classwork with our partners at Iowa Western Community college.   Apprentices commit to a 2-year program and will graduate with a certification that qualifies them as certified Journeyman Welders.  We are excited to continue to grow the passion for the welding industry.  Stay tuned to hear about our new apprentices and their progress in the coming weeks!
